We may not be too fancy, but we're really good at what we do," sad Dave, the owner, who took over the restaurant two years ago. And the crowds that take over, especially on the weekends, prove it.Looking for a small, classic, no-frills diner where you can get really great food, super-friendly service, breakfast at three in the afternoon and a bottomless cup of coffee without paying exorbitant prices? Good news. We found it for you. Located on Mass Ave., smack dab between the Central Square and Harvard Square T stations, is the aptly named Mass Ave Diner.
Owner Dave Barlam, who took over the restaurant two years ago, prides himself on serving up delicious meals at affordable prices. Barlam says, "We may not be too fancy, but we're really good at what we do." And the crowds that take over, especially on the weekends, prove it. Everyone from ravenous college students, their professors, young professionals, visitors and locals alike all flood the diner. They come for the relaxed local vibe, the friendly service and, of course, the fine fare.
All the dishes at the Mass Ave Diner are made to order from scratch in an open kitchen using only the freshest ingredients. You can get your standard diner grub here from your favorite breakfast dishes, including fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice, to burgers and sandwiches, to something you don’t usually see on a diner menu—Mexican food. Mass Ave serves up enchiladas, huevos rancheros, and fajitas and all its salsas and sauces are homemade. Come hungry and leave nothing but a greasy spoon.
