Don’t let the name fool you—Martin’s Coffee Shop is packing a lot more than just your morning brew. This cozy neighborhood diner will take your taste buds on a ‘round-the-world culinary cruise. Sandwiched in an old-as-dirt storefront (what’s new, Boston), the once all-American eatery is armed with the most colorful breakfast and lunch menu on the block.

Originally from Albania, owner Quidy (pronounced ‘k-why-dee’) balances a master mix of Mediterranean, Spanish, and down-home American fare. From cucumber tzatziki and eggs to berry pancakes piled high, Quidy and his crew prepare everything from scratch. The Irish Breakfast with a side of traditional pudding and Albanian Breakfast with meatballs and pita bread top the list of crowd favorites. Although Quidy’s quick to add fresh basil or his famous fruit salad to your plate, Martin’s Coffee Shop has a seven-year reign of “Boston’s Best Home Fries.” It’s that health conscious-meets-greasy spoon vibe the regulars dig. Thus, hipsters and blue-hairs alike vie for a table in a line that often stretches out the door. Plus, you can be internationally curious in the comfort of your own backyard—no passport necessary.

“Like our food, our customers come from different backgrounds, ideas and cultures,” Quidy says. “That’s why I mostly stay at the register—it gives me a chance to talk to everyone who comes in.” A word to the wise: bring your change jar—this flavor trip is cash-only.
