One of the best things about dining on Newbury Street is the people watching. And there's a perfect spot for just that, where you can compliment your voyeuristic pleasures with fresh fish and colorful sushi rolls. After looking over the extensive menu options and feeling a bit overwhelmed, my friendly and helpful server, Mayumi, and the chef recommended some of the spicier menu options to warm up on a cold day. I ordered a bright and crisp seaweed salad and one of the local favorites, the Baked Alaska Maki. This sushi roll comes with eel, cream cheese, tempura flakes, avocado, cucumber, spicy sauce, topped with a layer of salmon melt—and it certainly does melt in your mouth.

Other local favorites on the menu include the Red Sox Maki, the Newbury Maki, the Prudential Maki, and, of course, the Boston Roll. Umai offers a variety of combination plates and bento boxes, alongside a long list of fresh sashimi, rolled sushi options, and a wide selection of beer, wine, sake, and other beverages including a variety of uniquely flavored bubble teas.
