Mining the shared nostalgia for their '70s youth, Heather Zidell and Leora Azoulay Lesh have come up with some inspired cupcake creations.Desserts rarely get more perfect than a single cupcake. It has everythingthe cake, that sweet, sweet frosting, maybe some sprinkles if you're feeling saucyand it all comes in a compact, adorable package. It's so perfect, in fact, that it has become as commonplace in our national dessert consciousness as a boring ol' cookie. Which is why the world needs cupcake innovators— dedicated cupcake-ologists that dream in frosting and get creative energy from massive sugar highs. Luckily for the D/FW Metroplex, we have such innovators in our midst.
Heather Zidell and Leora Azoulay Lesh have dubbed themselves, respectively, the CFO (“Chief Frosting Officer”) and the CCO (“Chief Cake Officer”) of Trailercakes, and these titles are no joke. The cupcakes they're turning out of their small, basement level kitchen in Richardson are as unique and fun as the sense of style and purpose with which they operate their business. Mining the shared nostalgia for their '70s youth, the pair have come up with some inspired cupcake creations. To wit, the next-level creativity that calls a white cupcake topped with chocolate buttercream and rolled in chocolate jimmies the “Welcome Back Kotter” because it looks like Gabe Kaplan's hair. Or the Fruity Pebbles-bedecked “Pebbles and Bam Bam,” which features a marshmallow center and a radically colorful visual aesthetic. Those more prone to chocoholism are in luck, as well; the “Stairway to Heaven,” which is a chocolate cupcake filled with peanut butter fluff and topped with chocolate ganache frosting, is worthy of its own Jimmy Page guitar solo.
