“Everything we do is fresh, down to the tortillas,” said chef/owner Abraham, who went on to tell us the process isn't easy. “It takes all night, but it’s worth it.”If you think Mexican food begins and ends with “fourth meal” at some Tex-Mex fast food joint, clearly, you’ve yet to experience Komali, an Uptown eatery that makes Mexican food luxe thanks to an ingenious (and delicious) combo of tradition and kitchen creativity. For that, we have chef/owner Abraham and executive chef Anastasia to thank. Both know what real Mexican food consists of due to heritage and culinary aptitude. “Everything we do is fresh, down to the tortillas,” said Abraham, who went on to tell us the process isn't easy. “It takes all night, but it’s worth it.” And as diners, we gotta agree. These tortillas are downright marvelous. As is our current fave—especially as the weather keeps getting warmer—the Avocado Gazpacho. Consisting of chilled shrimp, masa dumpings, red onion, cucumber, radish and cilantro, this makes a great light lunch or app before dinner. Or maybe both. See, here’s the thing about Komali: once you start sampling the dishes and sippin’ on the “Best Margarita in Dallas,” it’s gonna be hard to leave. Trust us. Menu Highlights:
3-Course Prix Fixe Lunch, $14
Avocado Gazpacho, $6 (cup) + $10 (bowl)
Grilled Beef Filete tampiqueña, $23
Stuffed Poblano Pepper, $24
