Much like an ice cream shop that smashes cookies and candy into your scoop of vanilla, Mixed Up Burgers is taking the toppings and mixing them straight into the meat before it's cooked, which means every bite is fresh and laden with toppings.Sometimes burgers can get boring, but not at Mixed Up Burgers, located just a quick drive from the roller coaster heaven that is Six Flags Over Texas. This joint is—quite literally—mixing up the idea of how one constructs a burger.
Much like an ice cream shop that smashes cookies and candy into your scoop of vanilla, Mixed Up Burgers is taking the toppings and mixing them into the meat before it's cooked, which means every bite is laden with bacon, peppers, cheese and even freakin' pineapple, should diners so choose. And, as an added bonus, this guarantees each burger is fresh. After all, if you're picking the mix-ins, the cooks can't make it until you order it, right?
And while you can create your own, we fell in burger-love with some of the place's pre-planned concoctions. We like to think of them as training wheels to the great bike ride that is the Mixed Up Burgers experience. The Jethro is an excellent place to start, with blue cheese, cajun spices and sauteed purple onions. We also liked the Chowboy, with BBQ sauce, cheddar, relish and deep-fried onions. It's kind of a gutbuster, but in this case, that's a compliment.
