Affordable gourmet pizzas named after beloved Denver streets and an expansive selection of local craft beers shine at this Highland spot.

The meaning of “gourmet” has been co-opted by a gang of plundering culinary Vikings. They took a beautiful concept—food that is masterfully prepared in order to take your taste buds on an unexpected trip—and greedily redefined it to suit their needs, making it synonymous with “we're going to charge you too much and you're gonna like it.” Thankfully the team at Pizza Public is ready to stand up to the gourmet goons, reclaiming the term and bringing it back to the masses. Their pies are priced in line with what you're used to from national chains except the pizzas here are topped with a mix of locally-sourced and exotic ingredients including mangos, Chevre goat cheese, shrimp, and aged white cheddar.

Ask the regulars which pie to sample first and the answer is nearly unanimous: The Tejon, whose savory flavors are a big surprise for a pizza. The Tejon covers its dough with a green chile sauce then layers on aged white cheddar, chicken, thick avocado slices, cilantro, and crème fraîche. The result is guaranteed to be unlike any slice you've had before. If that delicious head trip isn't enough to set your stomach to “Rumble,” their soon-to-be unveiled expanded menu will include highlights like a beefy cheeseburger pizza. Eat it, Vikings!
