For nearly sixty years this cozy neighborhood bakery has churned out some Colorado's finest tamales, tortillas, and other Mexican treats. It's a damn shame that every neighborhood can't have it's own La Popular. The no-fuss Mexican bakery has been serving up what are arguably Denver's best tamales since 1946! For the sake of context, that was the year after WWII drew to a close. The Internet wasn't invented yet. Heck, Al Gore (aka the man who invented the Internet) wasn't even invented yet! With one bite of their red chile tamale, the key to their longevity becomes immediately apparent. For just over a buck each, these spicy, corn husk-wrapped delights are definitely worth every penny.
Of course, this isn't your great-grandfather's tamale stand. La Popular has been run by the same family for over fifty years, and they've expanded over time. Pop into the storefront and you can snag some tortillas, chips, and salsas, or pick your favorites from a phalanx of fruity empanadas and Mexican baked goods.
