This mom-and-pop shop will satisfy your cravings in a way that fancy-pants restaurants simply cannot. Check out the Southern breakfast classics, like Biscuits & Gravy, and rotating weekly specials, like all-you-can-eat catfish on Friday. Our city has some dang good food. And while we’re always eager to try the latest fancy pants restaurant to pop up on the Nashville food scene, sometimes, we find ourselves longing for the simplicity and charm only a small town mom-and-pop restaurant can offer. Located on Dickerson Pike just a short drive from Downtown, Mallard’s Family Restaurant is our escape to a simpler time.
The menu hasn’t changed all that much in the 40 years they’ve been open. And frankly, we’d be disappointed if it did. Opening at 5:30 a.m. Monday through Saturday (on Sundays they open at 7 a.m.), Mallard’s offers Southern breakfast classics like biscuits and gravy and pancakes, as well as a super economical (it’s only $4.95) breakfast plate that’ll leave you with leftovers for days. No, seriously—Hanna’s Favorite Breakfast Special consists of two eggs, two silver dollar hot cakes, two sausage links, two strips of bacon and two biscuits. And best of all? They serve breakfast all day. As far as the lunch/dinner menu goes, Mallard’s hand-patted, seasoned-at-the-time-of-order burger is a favorite of ours (it’s also the most popular item on their menu), as is Country Ham Sandwich. Meat specials change daily (we love Chicken and Dumpling Mondays), but you can always expect to find Roast Beef, Grilled Ham, Grilled Chicken and Steak & Gravy on the menu at Mallard’s. Oh, and if you ever find yourself feelin’ extra ravenous on a Wednesday or Friday, you’re in luck. Wednesday = all-you-can-eat spaghetti and Friday = all-you-can-eat-catfish. Don’t act like you’re not excited.
