Over the years, we’ve heard about a million (okay, that’s a slight exaggeration) stories as to how chicken and waffles came to be. But the truth is, we don’t really care. We’re just glad it happened. Because when the sweet and savory awesomeness of these two great-on-their-own foods unite, we’re convinced the whole world stops for just a moment. Here’s a look at where to find the best chicken and waffles in the city:

The Waffle Boss
Various locations, food truck

Of all the chicken and waffle places in Nashville, The Waffle Boss food truck offers the most variety. All you gotta do is pick your waffle, pick your chicken and pick your topping. Our favorite? Hot chicken on a birthday cake waffle. So good we can hardly believe it actually exists.

The Southern Steak and Oyster
150 Third Avenue South

Esquire Magazine named The Southern one of the best new restaurants of 2012—and for good reason. We’re big fans of their dinner menu (crab cakes = amazing), but brunch totally takes the lead the lead for us. They keep their chicken and waffles pretty simple: Southern fried chicken served on top of a homemade Belgian waffle.

The Stone Fox
712 51st Avenue North

It’s no secret that we love The Stone Fox. We’ve pretty much been beating you over the head with our excitement since they opened. Made with just enough hot sauce to make them stand out from the crowd, The Stone Fox’s chicken and waffles are a must try.

Silo
1121 Fifth Avenue North

Located in Germantown, this farm-to-fork restaurant makes their waffles out of cornmeal and tops them with Southern fried chicken, orange marmalade and spicy sorghum. Fancy.
