We enjoy a good watering hole as much as the next bar-hopper, but everyone needs a break now and then. This month, we’ve decided to give our liver a little break by focusing on some different vices, like the creamiest milkshakes in town and the tastiest aqua fresca this side of the Mexican border. (Actually, forget our liver -- we’re doing this for our taste buds.)
“Oh Yeah” Juice
This combination of organic kale, collard, apple and lemon is packed with more nutrients than a salad bar. Oh, and did we mention it gives your immune system a boost whilst reducing cholesterol? Sorry, Wheaties – we’ve found the new the breakfast of champs.
Wash down those burgers and tots with a drink from the Pharmacy’s old-school soda fountain. Their homemade syrups are made with cane sugar instead of corn syrup, and there’s no caffeine, preservatives or artificial icky stuff. Meaning we can order at least five of them, right?
Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream Milkshake
Hot & Cold
Jeni’s is pretty much perfect, but the world-famous scoop shop refuses to serve milkshakes. Luckily, Hot & Cold always keeps a few gallons of Jeni’s ice cream on hand, and they’re more than willing to shake things up by adding a few glugs of milk. Their flavors rotate on the daily, making it difficult to recommend a specific flavor, but rest assured that you can’t go wrong, even at the $8 sale price.
Peanut Butter, Banana & Kale Smoothie
We usually prefer to eat our leafy greens, not drink them. If it weren’t for the bright green color of this smoothie, though, we’d never know we were slurping down a vegetable. Factor in the all-natural peanut butter and creamy almond milk, and you’ve got a decadent dessert that’s actually good for you.
Hibiscus Lime Agua Fresca
A sweet-and-simple combo of fruit, flowers, water and sugar – this is basically fruit punch for foodies. Pro-tip: Don’t spill a drop, because the bright purple liquid is sure to leave its mark on our clothes. (And besides, when something tastes this good, why waste any?)
