Throwback Movie Thursday: "Independence Day"
Nashville Zoo's Festival Field, 3777 Nolensville Pk.
Let's celebrate our country's birthday the ol' fashioned way – by hanging out with some jungle animals and watching Will Smith punch dreadlocked aliens in the face. We're talking about Independence Day, the classic '90s tribute to patriotism. Early birds can enjoy wine, beer, food and lawn games starting at 6:30 p.m., with the movie starting around sundown.

"A Hard Day's Night"
The Belcourt Theatre, 2102 Belcourt Ave.
It's been 50 years since this rock & roll musical helped catapult the Fab Four into the stratosphere of fame. Half a century later, the film has been restored and remastered, with a souped-up audio mix to make the songs pop out of the Belcourt screen. To sweeten the deal, country musician Bill Lloyd will play a set of Beatles tunes after the Friday night premiere. (Now if only we could find someone to hold our hand…)

Laser Show: "The Other Side of Pink Floyd"
Adventure Science Center, 800 Fort Negley Blvd.
The fireworks may be over – mostly at least (those darned neighborhood kids) but that doesn’t mean we’re peeling our eyes from the skies. Hit up the Sudekum Planetarium and fill up on lasers instead. This cosmic concert focuses on Pink Floyd's non-Dark Side tunes, which are accompanied by digital effects, millions of stars and breathless exclamations of "duuuuuuude!" from the guy sitting beside you in a Wish You Were Here t-shirt.

Xtreme Hypnosis Show with Hypnotist Rich Guzzi
Zanies Comedy Night Club, 2025 Eighth Ave. S.
Don't sit in the front row of this interactive comedy show – unless you want to be pulled onstage, hypnotized and made to do any number of embarrassing things. We'll be in the back, laughing along and staying far, far away from the stage.
