Back when this space was a laundromat, you'd never have been able to guess the lovely, warm Italian haven that would soon take its place. Today, Verde on Smith rocks exposed brick and beautiful chandeliers, spreading back from its light-filled front to its leafy patio. Along the way, locals linger over plates of stunning northern and southern Italian delicacies: lobster feasts decked out with baked clams, tuna with cannellini beans and escarole, and homemade pastas by the fistful. Whichever cardinal direction you choose, make sure you settle in with something from the bar; the bottles on the wall may give you a wine craving, but the cocktail list is worth a glance, too. Our advice? Kick things off with a Pom Bianco, a mix of Don Julio bianco tequila, pomegranate and lime juice. It may not be from the old country, but it will prep your palate for all of the Italian joy that's on its way.
