Williamsburg’s Imli Cafe is backyard paradise.Stay in New York long enough, and you’ll be itching for some great outdoor spaces. Williamsburg’s Imli Cafe is backyard paradise. From the spicy Indian dishes to the fragrant hookah, you’ll be relaxing under beautiful lighting, big trees and breezy canopies. Bring some friends and share a few orders of fiery masala fries (French fries made with traditional Indian masala spices) or the crispy samosa chat (a turnover filled with potatoes, chutney, and chat masala). Next up, you’ll want to try the mint chicken tikka (boneless chicken marinated in a flavor-packed blend of cilantro, ginger, garlic, mint and basil, skewered and cooked to perfection in the cafe’s clay oven). Imli also offers plenty of delicious vegan and vegetarian options, from the aloo gobi (cauliflower and potatoes sauteed with tomatoes, ginger, green chili and ginger) to the saag paneer (pureed spinach and paneer simmered in onion, green chili and ginger). As you enjoy the good food, fresh air and friendly service, you’ll find yourself feeling comfortable among the canopies. Stick around for some malai kulfi (homemade cardamom-spiced ice cream) and ask for a “Rum- Runner” hookah, a unique combination of shisha (tobacco) and rum that will leave you feeling clean and crisp as the garden around you.
