A library of beer and a menu full of tapas options awaited us at this East Village brew pup + Latin American eatery. So, obviously, we grabbed a table. And then we saw how surprisingly well lobster guacamole pairs with Lagunitas. We have an embarrassment of riches at our disposal when it comes to dining options in this town, which can actually make going out a little daunting (#NYCproblems). So when a restaurant successfully combines two themes together, it's a refreshing—and convenient—alternative to having to make tough decisions about where to go. One combo that we've come to love is La Cerveceria, which offers up a fantastic update on both the tapas bar and the craft brew pub.
Walk to the back of La Cerveceria, and you'll encounter what can only be called the beer library: tall glass cases lined with hundreds of bottles from some of the world's best breweries. While the cuisine is Latin American, the beer skews principally American; it's a split that makes sense as soon as you sit down to eat. The lime-infused, brightly spicy tapas (think skirt steak skewers, fish tacos, tuna ceviche) work perfectly with the subtle, mellow flavors of local lagers and ales. By the time you're pairing a bowl of lobster guacamole and a Lagunitas, you'll realize that your margarita rut was long due for an overhaul. The room itself is beautifully appointed, built to be relaxed in for long, winding evenings. And thank goodness: you've got a whole library to explore.
