A classic Italian brick oven pizza parlor in the heart of Nolita, Toby's offers up some of the freshest pies around, along with craft ales and Prosecco on tap. Plus? Dogs welcome.True story: we're a sucker for a good canine theme. It's just in our blood. Which is why we're really looking forward to the upcoming redecoration at Toby's Public House in Nolita. Named for owner Christine Iu's late Rottweiler, she plans on adding around 50 framed photos of local neighborhood pups to the joint's walls, which we think will blend nicely with the already charming aesthetic of a classic Italian pizza parlor. The open dining room sets the perfect stage to watch your pizza come out piping hot from the giant brick oven, and the casual bar off to the side is a great place to study the impressive list of craft beers and house wines. Order up the crowd-pleasing Tartufata Pizza, with black truffle cream sauce, white truffle oil, crimini mushrooms, mozzarella and parma cotta ham or the Merguez with lamb sausage, feta cheese, red onions and mint.
The mushroom ravioli is also a forced to be reckoned with and the small-plates menu was designed for groups to be able to come in and share a number of different items (polenta fries, bruschetta and Merguez lamb pockets are just a few standouts). And just in case Fido needs to tag along, this place's dog-friendly mission will see improved sidewalk seating and plenty of water bowls filled with NYC's finest (tap water).
