Flat Top may be new to Morningside Heights, but they're on the fast-track to becoming one of our favorite spots in the ‘hood. With well-crafted modern dishes and creative presentations – they're an irresistible combo of comfort and sophistication. In life, there are meals that are fun because they're a warm, inviting experience with friends. Then there are those that are a chance to eat something new and adventurous. At many restaurants you get one or the other, but rarely both. Flat Top is one of those special exceptions. That’s why the Morningside Heights newcomer is on track to become one of our favorite spots in the ‘hood. With well-crafted modern dishes and creative presentations, they've got a comfortable-yet-sophisticated spirit that beckons us to keep coming back. First up on the menu? A meaty treat not to be missed. Many call it “God’s butter,” and with good reason – bone marrow is the holy grail of rich creamy spreads, perfect for lathering atop a perfectly toasted slice of brioche. We like to scoop it straight outta the bone and top it with a sprinklin' of three traditional toppings: caramelized sweet onion jam, lemon-dressed parsley and Maldon sea salt (trust us, it's nothing short of heavenly).
While scraping at the last few bits of marrow (hey, we’re not judging) order the Ginger Crusted Striped Bass or the Maple Leaf Farm Duck Breast. The fresh bass comes in a crispy ginger crust with a topping of cilantro leaves, all on a bed of sweet corn, shimeji mushrooms, and a peanut miso vinaigrette. The Maple Leaf Farm Duck is a juicy helping of the famously tasty bird, along with a tangy side of arugula salad, blueberry balsamic dressing, candied walnuts and blackberries. For dessert? Peanut Butter & Jelly Sundae. Yes, our childhood dreams have been realized with this combination of peanut butter ice cream, toffee chips, chocolate sauce and vanilla salted macarons (filled with strawberry jelly, of course). Still have a sweet tooth? Each guest gets a complimentary, fresh-baked brownie at the end of the meal. Yep, we’ll be coming back for more of that.
