We’re suckers for the warm glow its brass lamps cast against the large antique mirrors. Whether we’re perched atop a rose-stained barstool or cozily situated in one of their plush, dark blue booths – there’s no place in the world we’d rather be. C'est vrai, Bistro La Promenade has that certain je ne sais quoi we can’t help but return to – striking the perfect compromise between class and light-heartedness. Meals here arrive with a flourish, thanks to the efforts of Chef and Owner Alain Allegretti, who’s been at the helm of Bistro since 2011. Allegretti is dedicated to selecting local, seasonal ingredients that nod back to his childhood on the Côte d'Azur. His cooking has a distinct style and flavor we just can’t get enough of, each dish a love letter and reimagining of all the French classics.
Glimpses of his seaside roots can be found tucked into a plate of the fresh tuna tartare, with pickled fennel and cucumber, crushed pistachios and seasonal greens. For more savory and hearty fare, steer toward the Loup de Mer, a whole branzino with sautéed spinach and lemon olive oil. As an accompaniment not to be outdone by the main course, we’d also highly recommend snagging an order of the Red and Yellow Beets. These subterranean veggies, served with caramelized pears and goat cheese, are enough to make us swoon. And of course, no visit to the Riviera would be complete without a decadent dessert to end the night, n'est pas? Luckily for us, there’s the almost-too-pretty-to-eat Guanaja Chocolate Mousse. Paired with salted caramel, marshmallow, hazelnut gelato and feuilletine, this smoother-than-smooth bliss has us brimming with joie de vivre.
