At Barley & Grain they’re serving up our favorites in an impressive selection of bourbons, ryes, scotches and craft brews. Drink ‘em neat, on the rocks or try one of the specialty cocktails for flavorful takes on classic spirits. The Hudson Baby Bourbon is a great local starting point, born in New York as the first bourbon whiskey to be distilled here since Prohibition. Or to mix things up, the Bacon Manhattan is a savory pork-fueled rendition of the traditional drink. We’d say the bacon-infused Buffalo Trace bourbon makes a swell companion for the sweet vermouth and bitters. For some sweeter sipping, go for the New York Sour. It’s the time-honored amalgam of egg white, lemon juice, bourbon and simple syrup plus a colorful float of zinfandel to top things off.

Now, we’ve never gotten drunk on cereal, but these grains make for a stiff drink. Order a couple classy eats off the menu to keep the night sailing smoothly, from Pork Belly and a Quail Egg to Grilled Baby Lamb Chop Lollipops. The Beef Poppers have garnered attention from locals and food critics alike with their breadcrumb-coated mix of shredded beef, caramelized onions, bacon and white cheddar. They’re fried to a handsome golden brown, served with garlic mayo, and taste like a bacon cheeseburger. Split them with a friend or gobble them all up, either way we’ll order another Manhattan while contemplating whether sharing is caring.
