This Astoria tavern has all the ol’ favorites made fresh every day, from sliders and steak to burgers and, yes, massive plates of nachos. It’s true that bar food can be a messy and sometimes egregious affair. Who hasn’t jumped headfirst into a plate of nachos after a few brews with complete disregard for flavor, composition, or heck, innocent bystanders? Yep, we’ve been there. So the folks at Katch had to ask: what if we could have it all? A place that had all the classic eats of a well-stocked watering hole and it all tasted great? This Astoria tavern has all the ol’ favorites made fresh every day, from sliders and steak to burgers and, yes, massive plates of nachos. None of the ingredients for each of these bar food staples comes outta the freezer, so each one tastes ahead of its peers.
The Arrogant Skirt Steak is a crowd-pleaser, marinated in Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale for meat that’s juicy, tangy and well worth an embarrassing saliva trail. The Pulled Smoke Duck Sliders and the Kobe Beef Sliders also stand up well to a pint or two. But the real star is the Katch Nachos, a towering plate of house-fried tortilla chips layered in a homemade pepper jack cheese sauce, black beans, roasted corn, sour cream, jalapenos, guacamole and pico de gallo. It’s all carefully constructed so that each bite gets a bit ‘o nacho fixin’s (artfully solving the problem of the empty chip). And it’s a good reason to stick around to try the 50 premium beers on tap or take stock of the 60+ TVs along the walls. Having it all feels mighty grand.
