Walking into Apartment 13 reveals one of those rare places where we find a bit of the idyllic New York experience come to life – a romantic dinner for two, a catch-up date with an old friend, or a cozy birthday celebration with our favorite urbanites. There are places in the city where, when we walk in and let our imagination drift, we we begin to see our idea of the idyllic New York meal come to life. The one that 's a romantic dinner for two, a catch-up date with an old friend, or a cozy birthday celebration with our favorite urbanites. From the facade, it'd be easy to pass off Apartment 13, with a neon sign and and a dimly lit bar just visible through the tall windows up front. But there's so much more to discover beyond the doorway. Walk along the bar and peruse the vast lineup of syrups and infusions ready to kick the cocktail list up notches above the neighboring watering holes. Try the Sherry Berry Cobbler for a sweetly complex mix of Lustau Palo Cortado, William & Humbert Dry Sack Amontillado, Gonzalez Byass Nectar, strawberries, lemon, agave and blackberries. Or float along the Strait of Malacca with Tanqueray London Dry, lemongrass, ginger, kalamansi juice and Dale’s Pimento Bitters.
Next, follow the scent of a roaring fireplace up the stairs, and feast upon the visual delights of an intimate dining area complete with crackling hearth (!) nestled into the side wall. Step out to the elevated, covered (and heated in the winter!) patio for some fresh air, or stick around fireside to experience the eccentric flavors of Chef John Keller's Japanese and Caribbean inspired menu. The Hamachi Crudo meshes fresh yellowtail with smoked tomato ponzu, yuzu kosho, garlic chips and micro cilantro. Or to crush hunger once and for all, we suggest the Chicken & The Egg, a filling plate of organic roasted chicken, bacon-broccolini mac & cheese with an over-easy organic egg and Fresno chili “sriracha” sauce. If anyone needs us, we’ll be packing our things and moving into that nook above the dining area in Apartment 13. (Please address all Sherry Berry Cobblers to us there.)
