At Bushwick newcomer, the Salad Wheel, hungry herbivores will be welcomed with intoxicating smells and a warm, comfortable atmosphere – along with a few more surprises. When people envision a place with the word “salad” in the name, they probably don’t expect to be greeted with intoxicating smells and a warm, comfortable atmosphere. At Bushwick newcomer, The Salad Wheel, hungry herbivores will get just that, along with a few more surprises. Think: one of the best kale burritos in Brooklyn and veggie bowls that keep things healthy but filling. The owners of this new neighborhood spot have made it their mission to serve nutritious food in a setting that’s more hangout than health nut.
Garlic and spices permeate the air, beckoning hungry diners to a rustic back room with ample seating and tall ceilings. For folks who can tear themselves away from the menu (we couldn’t) it’s one of those cozy spots to settle in and get some serious work or studying accomplished. The Bushwick Bowl and the Black Bean Kale Burrito are the real standouts here. The neighborhood’s namesake has a hearty mix of organic brown rice, carrots, broccoli, red onions, mushrooms and kale drizzled with tahini aioli. The burrito plays no second fiddle to it’s carnivorous counterparts, with a flavorful filling of sautéed garlic, black beans, marinated kale, red onion, avocado and crumbled feta. The best news yet? Word from the boss is that as the weather gets warmer out, they’ll open up a back patio that’ll offer prime space for summertime chillin’, grillin’ and burrito-devourin’.
