The persnickety nanny always managed to have the essentials magically packed up into her ever-expanding bag, and in a similar fashion, this petite SoHo storefront manages to fill their space with their very own surprises. The laid-back vibe beckons neighborhood regulars and hungry passersby to get comfortable with their signature strong coffee, freshly baked pastries and all the free wifi one can surf. Once inside, a glance down a short hallway, toward the back of the place, reveals a sunlit back room and a bustling kitchen, where Chef Gary and his team are hard at work. He insists on using fresh ingredients, many of which come from the local farmers’ markets. Items on the menu may seem like familiar cafe fare, but they taste all the better when prepared with the restaurant’s homemade sauces, jams, dressings and pastas.
Classic breakfasts get a boost from lush fixin’s, like omelets filled with truffle butter & English peas, prosciutto di Parma or duck confit. Lunch is an equally elevated affair over the Wild Mushroom Soup or the Miso Glazed Salmon Wrap. And for the night owl burning the midnight oil (or for the day-tripper taking a load off) dinner at Prince Street satisfies many a craving ‘til 12 a.m. Yes, we’ll rejoice that the Daily Risotto can indeed be eaten all day long. Though they’re officially for breakfast, the Crêpes with Jam & Seasonal Fruit also make for a fine dessert. A spoonful of sugar is supposed to help the medicine go down anyway — especially if that medicine is a long day at work. (We can’t help but reckon that Mary would approve.)
