A good coffee shop has about as much power to lift our spirits as rolling around on fluffy blankets with a bunch of newborn puppies. Yep, give us a strong coffee in a cool, laid-back atmosphere — with fast wi-fi and enticing food taboot — we are guaranteed to amble along into a zone of bona fide bliss. Kávé is one of such gems, quietly hidden away from the traffic of Bushwick’s busy streets. To discover such treasures, choose one of three adventures: 1) follow the green hallway leading inside from the corner of Knickerbocker and Flushing Avenues, 2) voyage through the lush cobblestone courtyard on Thames Street between Knickerbocker and Porter, or 3) browse through the Shops at the Loom near the entrance at 1087 Flushing Avenue, then make way toward the intoxicating aroma of espresso.

We chose the latter, and after following our noses, were promptly rewarded with the delicate wonders of Kávé’s lattes. Our favorites? The Lavender Latte (made with real house-made lavender syrup) for an elegant caffeine fix and the Dirty Chai Latte for some cinnamon-coated relaxation. The secret to their oh-so-impressive pours? Well not only is everything fresh and organic, but the baristas’ attention to detail is unparalleled. Meaning, the coffee beans are single-origin, free trade and locally roasted, and come summertime, every iced java is a smooth cup of 24-hour cold brew. Artisanal sandwiches on baguettes and croissants also hold it down in the food department, along with hot bread pudding, biscuits and vegan blueberry buckwheat muffins (a.k.a. a good way to fool ourselves into eating healthy.) Pro tip: stop by early on Sunday morning to snag a spot by the classic piano, where musicians play classical tunes from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. every week. Drink it all in like so many lavender lattes.
