Enter Murray Bar, our go-to neighborhood watering hole in Midtown. It’s the kind of place where the bartender up front waves hello to familiar faces and the local barflies buzz in for post-work pints and steaming plates of chicken wings. Old friends gather in the back seating areas to commiserate and convive over generously poured whiskeys and endless Angus Beef sliders. Could we ask for more?
Six TV’s and two projectors keep the crowd captivated with baseball, basketball and hockey games. But even the least sports inclined New Yorkers will find something alluring at the tables here. Yessir, we can get down with some Dirty Lamb Pops or The Dirty Burger any day. Murray’s signature spice blend gets its own section on the menu, where it’s used to season each of these meaty favorites. The New Zealand lamb gets dusted in the stuff then grilled with honey and drizzled in a red wine reduction. And the Dirty Burger is a true testament to the secret blend of flavors: patties here are served sans any of the traditional burger trappings. That means no pickles, lettuce, onions, ketchup or cheese — just a coating of the “dirty” spices, cooked ‘til medium then served with fries and house-made dipping sauces. And this place keeps the brews comin’ too: every Monday night, trivia starts up at 8:30 p.m., and the owner says they’ll be setting up a beer pong league in the back room downstairs soon. Practice makes perfect, so we’ll be grabbing a pint.
