Hey, ruts happen to the best of us, but in a city like this, they're basically inexcusable. If you've seen the same blocks and bartenders for far too many months now, it's time to try a new neighborhood. First up? Bed-Stuy, as seen through the lens and liver of photographer
Clay Williams.
Saturday night, Clay, along with friends and fellow Brooklynites, Nicole Taylor, the Food Culturist, and Alisha Miranda led the first ever Bed-Stuy Bar Crawl. The event, which hopefully will be the first of many, took a crowd of nearly 30 folks (including friends and crashers) to four places in the area to grab a drink. If you missed out on the festivities, check out each of the stops below to recreate the crawl for yourself.

Stop 1: The Fulton Grand. Sticklers for real estate (which is to say most New Yorkers) will point out that our excursion technically began in Clinton Hill. That may be true, but this cozy neighborhood bar, thanks to its wonderful beer selection, is worth walking the three short blocks past the border.

Stop 2: Bruekelen Cellars. Nostrand Avenue’s newish wine shop doubles as an art gallery, with regularly changing shows on display. Here, crawlers took in the new work on display by photographer Luis Pons and enjoyed a tasting of a selection of wines.

Stop 3: Vodou. Just across Nostrand Avenue, this creatively decorated lounge offers brunch on the weekends and a place to unwind with a cocktail. Here, we enjoyed a champagne cocktail with hibiscus syrup and elderflower.

Stop 4: Black Swan. A sports bar with a soul, The Swan manages to keep the game on without killing the mood. The extensive beer selection, including the only cask ale in all of Bed-Stuy complements a menu full of clever riffs on pub grub.
These four locations are just the tip of the iceberg of what the neighborhood has to offer. Follow the twitter hashtag #bedstuycrawl for updates on future events.
