Our favorite sign of summer in the city? The proliferation of outdoor movies series, of course. After compiling our master list of some of our favorite ways to watch classics in the parks, along the waterfront, and on at least one aircraft carrier, Coney Island has gone and upped the ante by setting up a screen on the sand.

Since we plan to pretend like all of next week is a holiday week (as is our right when July 4 decides to take place on a Wednesday), we love that the Coney Island: Flicks on the Beach film series is kicking off July 2. Like its waterfront brethren, this series, co-hosted by Rooftop Films, front-loads each screening with a musical performance (7 p.m.) before unspooling the night's movie (8 p.m., so you have plenty of time to get out there after work.) First up? Ghostbusters, of course. You can't ring in a new New York film series without a little rampaging Stay-Puft action.
