In case you hadn't heard, we're right smack in the middle of the Summer of Rieslingat least according to popular wine bar Terroir, whose co-owner, Paul Grieco has taken it upon himself to force his clientele to more completely appreciate and understand the greatness that is Riesling. Well, those in the market for a wine by the glass, anyway.
In a strong gesture of adoration for the varietal, Grieco has eliminated any and all white wines from his by-the-glass selection, save for about two dozen Rieslings. The idea behind his menu modification is that not enough people appreciate the white, mostly because of the generalizations surrounding it. For instance, not all Rieslings are as sweet as their reputation would suggesta point Grieco declares boldly on the Terroir website. His reasons extend further, mostly rooted in his own opinions of the grape's greatness, but we'll let you consult The New York Times should you desire more explanation. As for us, we've got all we need to convince us that the crisp, cool white may be worth another try.
