Deep Space Dance Party
Cielo, 18 Little West 12th Street, Manhattan

Don’t discount dubstep before you’ve heard the real thing. Talented DJs Appleblim, Francois K. and Shackleton, have been writing, producing, and performing experimental dubstep together and separately for almost a decade. Electronic bass technician Kode9 backs up the evening with hard-hitting beats that’ll send you bouncing off the walls before landing in breakdance mode squarely on the dance floor. More info here.

Double Vision: A Drink and Draw
Skylark Bar, 477 5th Avenue, Brooklyn

What do a boxer, a ballerina, and a martial arts master who refuse to get naked have in common? They've all been past models for the bi-weekly Double Vision series hosted at Skylark. This time, a hot goth chick will be your muse. Happy Hour drink specials are extended to 10 p.m. for the sketchy event. Skylark has a few sheets of paper and No. 2 pencil in stock, but it’s highly recommend that you bring your own tools to reap the full (slightly drunken) artistic experience.

Roots in the Raw Series hosted by Rabbi Darkside
Roots Café, 639 5th Avenue, Brooklyn

Bluegrass abounds as the Roots in the Raw series revs up again at the southern-inspired Roots Café. Folky sounds from the Birmingham, AL band Delicate Cutters headline along with the Texan/Canadian duo A Brief View of the Hudson. Adding a hip hop twist to the mix is emcee Rabbi Darkside, a popular NYC freestyle wordsmith and former beatboxing coach on the MTV series Made. Dig it here.
