Some of you may be spending the weekend fasting and some of you may just be looking for something to do. And some of you may be looking for something to do to take your mind off how hungry you are while you're fasting. Whatever your reason for wanting something to do, we've got you covered. Here are a few very distracting activities to keep you from thinking about whatever you need to not be thinking about 'til Monday:
WE DON'T WANT TO MISS:
WILLIAMSBURG FASHION WEEKEND
Friday, September 17 and Saturday, September 18, 8 p.m.
As we wrap Fashion Week the Manhattan way (with catwalks and exclusivity), we open up Fashion Weekend, the Brooklyn way: with musical and theatrical performances and "mixed-media extravaganzas." Fourteen up-and-coming designers with a focus on fair trade and eco-friendliness will be showcasing their designs Glassland's Gallery for all those who choose to buy a ticket (not who are pre-approved by a larger-than-life PR firm). Come see what's up with these hand-made one-of-a-kind pieces and small collections for Spring/Summer 2011.
ALSO WORTH CHECKING OUT:
25TH ANNUAL CONEY ISLAND TATTOO AND MOTORCYCLE SHOW
Sunday, September 19, 12 p.m.
Even if you're not a participant, this gathering of ink and horsepower (pictured) is a sight worth seeing. Bike awards will be given for the oldest, ugliest (yes, ugliest) and best custom, while tats will be recognized for best color, back and butt designs (again, yes, butt designs). Convinced it's worth a trip out to Coney Island yet? If nothing else, it should make for some seriously good people watching.
ROOMMATES WANTED NYC MINGLER
Sunday, September 19, 8 p.m.
All too many of you have shared your space with strangers you find on Craigslist. And we know how it ends: Every time, after about a week, you think, "Jeez, I wish I'd met them first, then I woulda seen what a weirdo they are." Well, now you can. Roommates Wanted NYC hosts minglers for people to meet potential roommates and actually hang with them for a bit before opening their door to another one of 'em. And at this week's event at Niagara, they're giving away two tickets to Scott's Pizza Tour for the person with the best worst (read that twice and you'll get it) roommate story. At least that nightmare is good for something, right?
