The Guernica, The Rumpus & BuzzFeed Books Holiday Spectacular!

The Bell House, 149 7th Street, Brooklyn

Maurice Sendak taught us about the fun to be had at a wild rumpus. They’re taking a cue from the late author with The Guernica, The Rumpus & BuzzFeed Books Holiday Spectacular. There will be singing, dancing, drinking, a Secret Santa gift exchange and, of course, enough paperbacks and hardcovers to please a hungry bibliophile. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door, and be sure to bring a gift to get a gift at Secret Santa.

SIlent Night at Green-Wood Cemetery

Green-Wood Cemetery, Willow Avenue, Brooklyn

Green-Wood Cemetery has a haunting allure all its own, with ornate mausoleums and decorative headstones dotting rolling hills. Silent Night takes us back to the era of silent film starring some of the famous New Yorkers who rest at Green-Wood. All films, ranging from westerns to comedies to a feminist manifesto, will be screened inside the beautiful gothic chapel. They’ll be serving hot toddies while artist Ben Model plays live music alongside the visual fare. Sounds like the perfect holiday treat to us. Tickets are $30 per person.

A Talk with Anthony Bourdain and Albert Maysles featuring Marcus Samuelsson

The Concert Hall at New York Society for Ethical Culture,
2 West 64th Street, Manhattan

Our favorite cantankerous chef, Anthony Bourdain, joins famed documentary filmmaker Albert Maysles and Harlem-based chef Marcus Samuelsson for a talk on film, food, travel and everything in between the dinner plate and the camera. Maysles, known for hit docs like Gimme Shelter, will screen clips from his long list of works, and Bourdain will show snippets from his new shows, “Parts Unknown.” Join in for the talk for $65 per person or come early for the pre-reception for $125 per ticket. Holiday Book Party: Coloring for Grown-Ups Holiday Fun Book

Powerhouse Arena, 37 Main Street, Brooklyn

When we were little, we figured a crayon, a white wall, and a momentary lack of parental supervision meant a DIY decorating party of our bedrooms. But now that we know how hard that stuff is to scrub off walls (and how lame being grounded is) here’s our chance to have some adulthood fun with a coloring book. Powerhouse Arena brings us this installment of Coloring for Grown-Ups with the Holiday Fun Book. It’s filled with irreverent activities like Construct You Own Non-Offensive Holiday Card, a New Year’s Day Walk-of-Shame Maze, and a St. Patrick’s Day Puke-By-Numbers. Come enjoy the twisted puzzles: it’s free to attend and doodling is encouraged.

Here We Come...All Ye Faithful: A Monkees Christmas Parody Show

The Celebration of Whimsy (a.k.a. The C.O.W.), 21 Clinton Street, Manhattan

Self-described as a “dumb, unauthorized, gender-bending, singing Monkees Christmas parody show for long-hairs and weirdos” this Lower East Side production has the makings of a rowdy holiday celebration. Davy, Micky, Mike and Peter take off on a roadtrip to spread holiday cheer (while paying their rent) and the audience comes along for the adventure. Jump in to a nerf-gun wedding fight, dance with a cross-dressing go go chick, or maybe even have a hillbilly in hotpants serenade you with Neil Diamond. Anything goes, and tickets to the show are just 15 bucks a pop.
