The 5th Annual Piglet Tournament of Cookbooks

Top of the Garden, 251 West 30th Street (16th Floor), Manhattan

With all of the cook-offs and contests that happen in this fine city, it’s easy to see that chefs around here are just a little competitive. This Monday, they’re takin’ it outside of the kitchen for the 5th Annual Piglet Tournament of Cookbooks, where judges will crown the best cookbook of 2013. Of course, like any good food fight, there will be plenty to eat and drink for the audience. Sip on brews from Brooklyn Brewery or snag a cocktail from the ladies behind Punch magazine, while munching on eats from local favorites, including Momofuku Milk Bar, Ovenly and Má Pêche. Admission is $25.

Thai Street Food

The Brooklyn Kitchen, 100 Frost Street, Brooklyn

There’s something intoxicating about the blend of spicy, sweet, salty and sour in Thai cuisine that’s caused us to announce (on more than one occasion) “I’m so full, my insides are going to burst out if I eat any more of this curry.” (But we do it anyway.) Learn how to cook some of these delicacies for yourself at The Brooklyn Kitchen this Wednesday. Each student will learn how to make Pounded Green Papaya Salad, Beef Salad (Nam Tok), Wide Rice Noodle and Pork Stir-Fry, and Coconut Rice with Mango. Afterward, there’ll nothing stopping you from engaging in explosive gluttony in the privacy of your own apartment. More curry, please. Admission is $75.

Pat Kiernan’s Red Carpet Trivia Night

The Bell House, 149 7th Street, Brooklyn

One of the best things about Oscar Sunday is Oscar Monday, when it’s time to dish about who won, who lost, who looked drunk in the audience and who gave an insane acceptance speech. Just in time for a post mortem on this year’s Academy Awards, NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan hosts a round of red carpet trivia over at The Bell House. Folks can expect to test their knowledge of film, television, music, Broadway, publishing, memorable moments from the show itself and all of the other pop-culture know-how in between. Tickets are $26. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.
