36th Annual Museum Mile Festival

Fifth Avenue between 82nd and 105th Streets, Manhattan

Think you can swing by 9 of the city’s museums in just 3 hours? Unless you’re superhuman, this Tuesday is your best shot at catching ‘em all at once. During the 36th Annual Museum Mile Festival, folks are invited to roam around each participating cultural institution for free. The city will close down Fifth Avenue from 82nd through 105th Streets, so we can step into the doors at the Africa Center, El Museo del Barrio, Museum of the City of New York, the Jewish Museum, the National Academy Museum and School, the Smithsonian's Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, the Guggenheim, the Met and the Neue Galerie New York. Grab some comfy shoes and walk a (museum) mile in ‘em.

A Night of Animal Madness

The Bell House, 149 7th Street, Brooklyn

If you’ve ever owned a pet (or observed your siblings as a child) then you already know that animals do some insane things. But if you’ve ever wondered why, author Laurel Braitman and journalist/humorist/documentary maker Jon Ronson may have some answers. From public shaming and killer elephant rehabilitation to bonobos with human psychiatrists, they’ll try to make sense of what we learned from the crazies in the animal kingdom and the crazy things we do in real life. Admission is free. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and the show starts at 8.
