Like a fingerprint from mother nature, this graphic wood print captures a cross-section slice of a 900-year-old juniper tree, stamped by hand using the traditional wood block method. If you do the math, this tree took root more than 300 years before Columbus reached the Americas. Growing on a dry, rocky hillside in the Wasatch Mountains of Utah, its unusual shape shows how the lower portion was exposed to the elements and eroding even as the tree was continuing to live and grow. The jagged exterior is the result of perhaps centuries of weather and exposure. Worry not, the wood used in all prints by this maker was taken from previously fallen and dead trees in areas where gathering wood is permitted. Each print is pressed by hand directly from the cut of wood, so true to nature, no two are exactly alike.
