Sprinkles on cupcakes and buttercream frosting, these are a few of my favorite things. And at That Takes The Cake, I can be surrounded by them. You might not be able to tell the exact flavors of these cupcakes by their names—Opposites Attract, Double Trouble, The Professor’s Favorite—but one look at them, and you can tell somewhere in between the sugar and butter, Master Baker Keisha Williams added a heavy dose of delicious. And for the holiday season, she’s mixing in some of the most festive flavors on the market: peppermint cake with chocolate frosting, egg nog cake topped with brandy buttercream and sprinkled with nutmeg, pumpkin cake lightly infused with spice and one of Keisha’s husband (and co-owner), Brian’s, favorites, sweet potato with brown butter buttercream frosting.

All the cupcakes are made fresh daily in an off site kitchen, so once these treats are gone, the shop closes up for the day. It’s no wonder one cupcake aficionado popped in as soon as That Takes The Cake opened, snatched up a half dozen and then confirmed the opening time for the next day. And if you needed an excuse to go back besides must. have. more. now, the flavors rotate daily.
