Charles Hopkins and his son Sean built their reputation in Oakland a few years ago, and now they’re gracing 24th Street with delicious doughy creations and genuine hospitality. You won’t find hard pepperonis floating in oil on limp slices dying under heat lamps here. Nope. Every specialty pie is made-to-order because they’re topped with fresh, unique ingredients- mangoes, prosciutto, green onions, spicy chicken- that need to be consumed, immediately.
Even though there are over 20 toppings to choose from to craft your own pizza, they encourage customers to stick to the Popo’s menu. It’s not like they don’t think you can be a creative genius, it’s just that their own tried and true recipes are masterpieces and they want to share. Don’t over-think it, just relax, order a masterpiece, stuff your face. Vegetarian, vegan? Just tell them your hankering and they’ll whip up a tasty combo for you too.
They also make their own desserts daily and when you order a 14” pizza or larger, you take home two sweet treats and a house salad, for free. There are big, juicy plans for the rotisserie machine Popo’s will be firing up later this week. Ribs rubbed with spicy marinade and slathered with housemade BBQ sauce? Yes, please!
