Summer is fully in swing, and that means the ripest, most delicious fruits and veggies of the year are within reach. Juicy stone fruits and berries, sun-ripened vegetables... it's like Christmas for foodies, and we're here to celebrate. Here's where to get your favorite summer foods, served up at some of SF's most delicious spots.
Corn. Corn is a summer standby, and we like it fresh off the cob. Get the Elote at Nick’s Crispy Tacosyour cob comes with grated cheese and chili powder, or try the scorched corn on the cob with sweet chile crema and dried lime at newcomer West of Pecos.
Figs. We don’t know about you, but fresh ripe figs make us want to go pantsless. We love the smoked turkey sandwich with cheddar and fig spread at Atlas Cafe. And we think you'll probably love it too.
Pears. We’ve always been a fan of Asqew’s grilled pear salad (put some balsamic beef on top for extra points), and we’re drooling over Starbelly’s bleu cheese, market pears, roasted onion and arugula pizza.
Cucumbers. There’s nothing cooler than a cucumber, and these summer veggies are refreshing as can be. We recommend getting your cuke fix in cocktails like The Orbit Room’s Pimm’s Cup and in sushi rolls the city over (we like Domo’s Spicy Hulk).
Tomatoes. We love fresh ripe tomatoes more than anything else ever, and luckily most SF restaurants do too. Keep it simple with Vicoletto’s mozzarella burrata with cherry tomatoes and arugula salad, or get Beretta’s Friday special: rock cod with roasted tomatoes. Or indulge in any of the city's stellar pizza options, Scoutmob "eat fresh" certified if they've got tomato sauce up top.
Peaches. Stone fruit is majorly in season, and we like to think of peaches as the pinnacle of summer eats. Get your fill with La Folie's Peach Melba Baked Alaska (with Earl Grey pound cake) or the peach, buttermilk, lemon verbena and granola cube cake from new spot on the block Craftsmen and Wolves.
