What’s the first sign that the holiday season is in full swing? When you hear White Christmas playing at Westfield for the 7th time? When you start seeing TV Guide listings for A Christmas Carol? When your parents start badgering you about how long you’re going to be able to come home and visit? Regardless, we fear that it's already here. But don’t freak out. Put your holiday prep off a bit longer with these events:
WE DON’T WANT TO MISS:
WINTER CARNIVAL AT THE EMBARCADERO
Friday, November 20, Carnival at 4 p.m., Disney at 6 p.m.
If ever something should be described as an extravaganza, it is the Embarcadero Center’s 24th annual winter carnival. If pony rides and face painting don’t do it for you, then stick around for the fireworks, sneak preview of Disney on Ice: Let’s Celebrate and the lighting ceremony where you’ll be blinded by the gloriousness of more than 17,000 lights. If the breaker doesn’t blow a fuse, your brain just might!
ALSO WORTH CHECKING OUT:
BLOW ME BINGO
Saturday, Novermber 20, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are probably the only people that could turn an old fashioned bingo game (pictured) into a raucous, blush-inducing fundraiser. The event celebrates the music of ’50’s and ’60’s girl groups, which will involve performances between bingo games as well as a costume contest. Money raised will go toward the Sisters’ Stop the Violence Campaign, which raises awareness about hate crimes against people in the LGBT commuity.
THREAD SHOW AT THE METREON
Sunday, November 21, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
What’s better than getting all your holiday shopping done? Getting it all done in one day with a cocktail in your hand and a bumpin’ soundtrack playing over the speakers. The clock is ticking and we know you haven’t bought one present yet. At the THREAD show, let indie designers show you what’s going to be hot for this season, all while supporting local talent.
