While the saying dictates that the proof's in the pudding, at Hawthorne Homemade Organic Juice Bar & Market, the proof most definitely is in the juicing. Proof of what? Oh, I dunno, things like more energy, more radiant skin, a better physique, a stronger immune system... Basically, an all-around better quality of life, at least according to owner Jo Anna Hawthorne. "It's a lifestyle," she explained. "I've been doing this for 18 years and I've never felt better." And for me, as a newbie to the juicing scene, one taste of all this healthful excellence and I'm convinced she might be into this for more than health. It's delicious! "We even grow our own wheat grass." It'll greet you at the door. And the good feelings/tastes don't end with the juices and smoothies. Any one of the sandwiches or wraps makes for a great breakfast, lunch, dinner or between-meal snack. The Raw, Raw Turnip Wrap, which is served up in crispy leaves of collard greens, proved surprisingly filling and the Turkey Cheddar Guac Panini is as good as it sounds.
