One bite of the chicken curry salad slider made me an instant fan. "People are really liking it," said owner Eric Nelson in what I personally think is an understatement because I'm loving it.Although I'd never heard of the term "fizz bar" before heading to Del Ray in Alexandria to visit Artfully Chocolate, it's quickly become one of my favorite concepts in the world. "The idea is to be like a retro soda fountain," said Eric Nelson, the venue's owner. That means you'll find things like chocolate egg creams on the menu that are made the old-fashioned way with just soda, milk and real U-Bet chocolate syrup (there are no eggs, despite the name), as well as other favorites like malts and shakes. Of course, that's about where the similarity with the days of yore ends. Artfully Chocolate's new menu is anything but old-school thanks to the addition of a food menu that offers sliders and sides fit for the contemporary crowd. One bite of the chicken curry salad slider made me an instant fan. "People are really liking it," said Eric in what I personally think is an understatement. I'm loving it, along with the rotating grilled cheese sliders, which go beyond the conventional concept up this classic sandwich by using cheeses you might not expect. And while all the food's tasty, maybe the best part of this concept is the fact that I didn't have to choose just one. With sliders being just a few bites, I can order the three that I want and add a side to make a personal smörgåsbord. In short, fizz bar all day, every day.
