Just when you think the cupcake trend can go no further, another bakery pops up that makes you fall in love with these palm-sized mounds of deliciousness all over again. That place for me is Sweet Themez. Located in a little basement space in Adams Morgan, this cupcake shop takes their wares to the next level with unique flavors like Sweet Potato, Georgia Peach and Neo-Neopolitan, which features raspberry cream sandwiched between vanilla and chocolate fudge cake. "We keep a few classic flavors on hand daily, and rotate the more exotic ones, according to the day," said Maurice Holmes, one half of the team that makes Sweet Themez so awesome. The other member of the team is his wife Adrienne, who also bakes all the cupcakes in-house daily. Maurice told me she's been baking since she was a kid and that we can thank her grandmother for passing down all of her suburb skills, including the knowledge that the fresher and more natural the ingredients, the better and more flavorful the final product. "We only use fresh fruits and veggies," said Maurice, while I shoved another bite of the Sweet Potato in my mouth. If food trends taste this good, by all means, carry on.
