“Everything here is homemade—everything,” said co-owner Georgios Patsalides, explaining how Tuscany-native chef and co-owner Daniele Catalani starts his day at 6 a.m. by whipping up fresh pasta, bread and pizza dough.
As soon as I spotted the giant pot of red marinara sauce bubbling away in the kitchen of Toscana Café, I regretted wearing a white shirt to dinner. Why, God, why?! The chance of me not splattering delicious tomato sauce all over my shirt while tucking into a giant plate of black ink fettuccine with spicy tomato sauce, calamari and clams was approximately zero percent. Rookie mistake. Next time I’ll know better, because this is the place for pastas. “Everything here is homemade—everything,” said co-owner Georgios Patsalides, explaining how Tuscany-native chef and co-owner Daniele Catalani starts his day at 6 a.m. by whipping up fresh pasta, bread and pizza dough. So, do as the Romans do (or Toscana Café’s Cap Hill regulars do) and pair your meal of pasta-y goodness with a glass of wine and chocolate chip-studded tiramisu for dessert.
