The Big Board

50% off The Big Board
The atmosphere is stylish without trying too hard. Especially cool is the little-known upstairs space, which hosts one of the city's coolest pub trivia nights on Thursdays and a sweet open mic every Wednesday.
Walking into The Big Board is like getting a high-five from your best friend after you did something awesome, yanno, like fended off a Jaws-sized shark with your bare hands. Or made it through another boring work day. This low-key H Street establishment just feels right. The atmosphere is stylish without trying too hard, with dark wood floors, exposed brick and a long granite bar. Even better, though, is the little-known upstairs space, which hosts one of the city's coolest pub trivia nights on Thursdays and a sweet open mic night every Wednesday. "We're the kind of place that encourages conversation," said Eric Flannery, who owns The Big Board with his brother Mark. It helps that the pricing system is based on bulk-buying economics, which means the more of a certain type a beer a larger number of people order, the better price everyone gets. Indeed, make new friends, but keep the old. (Especially if you have the same beer preferences.) And now that we got our trivia team and our well-priced beers, there's just one thing missing—the burger. Either build-your-own or opt for one of the preset gourmet versions. My favorite is the Ciao Bella, which comes out the way the burger gods intended: medium-rare and topped with roasted red peppers, mozzarella and prosciutto.

Menu Highlights:
Ciao Bella Burger, $9
Build-Your-Own Burger, $6
Catfish Bites, $7
Hand-Cut French Fries, $5
Beers, about $4 to $9.50
