Your first tartlet at this adorable gluten-free bakery is on the house, but we dare you not to walk out with a box of cookies, cupcakes or the righteousness known as a pear raspberry bombe. You'll thank us later. For Emma Cech, the owner of The Happy Tart, it all started with an Easy-Bake Oven. "I just thought those were the best thing ever," she said over a cup of coffee at her cute Mt. Vernon Avenue location. A food science degree and some heavy duty professional pastry chef training and work experience later, Emma's creations have come a long way.
When we walked in we were greeted by a friendly employee and a large array of finely decorated pastries, from multi-color macaroons and cupcakes to multi-layered petit fours and other goodies. Alas, it was her signature tartlets that got us really pumped. "We always have lemon meringue, lime and ganache on hand," she said of these tasty little mini pies. "We also always carry something seasonal," she said. When we were there it was a pecan masterpiece. Not being able to decide which citrus flavor to sample, we went for both the lemon and the lime. And we ate both in about 2.5 seconds. They're that good. And guess what? They're also for everyone. Everything at The Happy Tart is 100 percent gluten free, so there's no excuse not to get your butt over there and try one. Plus, your first tartlet's on the house. Although we dare you not to walk out with a box of cookies, cupcakes or the righteousness known as a pear raspberry bombe. Now if you'll excuse us, we have more eating to do.
