Much like cat pictures on the Internet, you can never have too many coffee shops in a city. Which is why those of us at ScoutmobDC (who depend on these fine establishments to do our jobs) were as pleased as this LOLcat to hear of the opening of a new pop-up coffee shop, Blind Dog Café at Darnell's.
Located at 944 Florida Ave., NW, not far from the 9:30 Club, this new establishment features PT's Coffee, Rishi Teas, house-made baked goods from Black Strap Baking Co. and incredible sandwiches and salads thanks to the skills of one of Blind Dog's owners, Cullen Gilchrist, who brings years of food experience to this pop-up project. The other two owners are Noah Karesh and Jonas Singer, who explain the "pop-up" concept simply: it's a sort of trial to see if this coffee shop will fit into the natural fabric of the neighborhood.
From this writer's perspective, who doesn't live far from Blind Dog's location, I give it a resounding thumbs up. With an inviting, cozy environment, free wifi and those awesome aforementioned beverages and vittles, it seems this trio of entrepreneurs has hit the proverbial nail on its head when it comes to coffee-shop concepts. Of course, why take anyone's word for it, when you can look at pretty pictures (see below), or better yet, check out Blind Dog yourself in person seven days a week. It's open Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to "4 or 5 ish." After that time, it turns into Darnell's bar, which is also worth checking out if you haven't yet. In the meantime, pictures!
