Garden greenery is limited in the District, sans Rock Creek Park and a slew of pop-up farmers' markets, we lack the ever-present homegrown veggie gardens and lush floral landscapes of the country. Or so we thought. Then we went for a bike ride. Led by the good people at CityBikes and Benevolent Media, Scoutmob and a handful of curious garden enthusiasts toured a few of DC's choicest garden plots before cycling to The Fridge to enjoy an intimate screening of "Community of Gardeners," a feature-length documentary about urban gardening in the District. Together, we've given the day a big fat green thumbs up, because not only did we meet a bunch of awesome people, we also discovered three of DC's best community gardens: Wangari Gardens in eastern Columbia Heights, Common Good in Ledroit Park, and the Brainfood garden in Mt. Vernon Square. Check 'em out when you get the chance. But for now? Photos!
