We're not saying no one in the DC area should ever eat a banana again. We're just saying it's worth it once in a while to think about how often we eat locally. Why because eating local equals:

• Social responsibility. FACT: When you purchase food from local producers or restaurants who source their food that way, you’re helping the local economy stay afloat.

• Friend of the environment. FACT: Food grown and eaten locally doesn’t need to be shipped across the world, which saves on pollution from oil-based transport.

• Happier taste buds. FACT: Food made with locally sourced foodstuffs is by default fresher than food that comes from elsewhere.

In other words, in Michael Pollan we trust. Which is why we're not holding back when it comes to spreading the word about Eat Local First Week, which is currently underway in DC.
