Despite the sunny weather, it's been a dark week. We're still suffering Olympics withdrawal over here, are you? Yes, days after maybe, possibly having shed a brief tear at the closing ceremonies, and not just because we were so happy to see all the Spice Girls together again, we're still craving more. Indeed, the Olympics should be at least three weeks long; a fortnight no longer cuts it. And while we're pleased that they're adding more sports every years (even it if it is "race-walking," which actually looks legitimately hard to execute properly), we miss some of these sports from years past, like the underwater obstacle course or tug of war (not joking, that was an event from 1900 to 1920.)

And while we could expound further on this list (hot-air ballooning used to be a medal contender!), we'll wipe our tears and move on. Alas, there are other sports to be watched and many right her locally, including summer Olympic sports like soccer (both DC United men's and women's teams), basketball (the Wizards will kick off their pre-season Oct. 1 and the Mystics, the women's team, are right in the midst of theirs), as well as non-Olympic sports like football (Redskins' pre-season is already in full swing and it's lookin' good with the addition of RGIII), baseball (the Nats are leading the whole league in wins!) and winter Olympic sport hockey (the Caps will kick off their season in October). These professional sports may not be as glamorous as rhythmic gymnastics, but we guess they'll do. GO TEAM(S)!
