In what has to be the most awwww-worthing news of the week, National Zoo's Mei Xiang birthed out a lil' snuggly ball of cuteness, a.k.a. a baby panda cub. While the story of the pregnancy is less than romantic, as DCist thoroughly reviews, the zoo reports the mother is in full mother mode with her new son and/or daughter. No one knows because Ms. Xiang has been cradling her cub since he arrived. In fact, zoo officials explained to WAMU yesterday that they won't be able to do a physical examination of the newborn for about another two weeks. Talk about an overBEARing mom! (You're welcome.)
Anyway, just because we don't know much about the new kid in the cage, doesn't mean we can attempt to name it. And so, let's do just that and we'll post all the responses we get right back here and crown a winner next week. Hit us up with your best ideas via Twitter or Facebook and let's get this naming show on the road, er, web.
