Screen on the Green

The National Mall

The final Screen on the Green of the season runs tonight, which must mean it's the tail-end of summer. And what better way to close the series out than with a screening of "Tootsie," now made newly relevant thanks to the epiphanies about being a woman that Dustin Hoffman shared last month.

DC Beer Week: The Ambassador Release and Mad Fox Tap Takeover

Smoke & Barrel, 2471 18th St., NW

It's the fifth annual DC Beer Week, which means craft beer is absolutely everywhere (and we likey). To celebrate, Smoke & Barrel is partnering with Mad Fox Brewing to release its first-ever beer, the hoppy Ambassador session IPA. Smoke & Barrel named the beer after the Adams Morgan music venue that hosted Jimi Hendrix's first U.S. headlining shows in 1967. You can also try 13 Mad Fox beers on draft, and bring along a growler.

Psst! Smoke & Barrel's got a sweet deal goin' on.

Tuesday, August 13, 5 p.m.
Tar Heel Brewery Invasion

The Black Squirrel, 2427 18th St., NW

A string band, Carolina-style barbecue and brews from six North Carolina breweries are headed to The Black Squirrel in AdMo. These brews are pretty rare this far north, and come to think of it, so is Southern hospitality, but The Black Squirrel promises both for this event.

Wednesday, August 14, 5 p.m.
Great Lakes Brewing Company Ping Pong Madness

Comet Ping Pong, 5037 Connecticut Ave., NW

Get your paddles ready: Comet Ping Pong is hosting a single-elimination doubles ping-pong tournament in honor of Beer Week. Only 16 doubles teams will be in the running, so get there at 5 p.m. sharp to register. The winner takes home Great Lakes Brewing Company swag; the team with the funniest name wins a Comet gift card; and everyone gets beer specials and a special pint glass when they order a Wright Pilsner. Go team.

Thursday, August 15, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Evil Twin Tap Takeover

Pizzeria Paradiso, 2003 P St., NW

We're curious about Evil Twin Brewing, a brewery based out of Denmark with cheekily named brews, including a series of Hipster Ales honoring fixie-friendly neighborhoods like Williamsburg and the Mission District in San Francisco. Now's your chance to check it out when at Pizza Paradiso in Dupont will be pouring 12 of Evil Twin's drafts for half price.

Thursday, August 15, noon to 11 p.m.
Hill Country's Backyard Barbecue

The National Building Museum, 401 F St., NW

Hill Country makes packing a picnic basket irrelevant, thanks to its outdoor summer Backyard Barbecue series on the West Lawn of the Building Museum. You'll want to grab some chopped brisket and barbecue sandwiches, and pull up a hay barrel to listen to a live performance from Oklahoma's Red Dirt Rangers.
